Single storey rear extension and internal alterations to a detached period property

This project involved internal alterations and a new rear extension to an amazing, detached period property. The original building was constructed in 1900 and was used as the Doctor’s Surgery for Histon from 1900 to 1999. Whilst the original property benefits from some beautiful features, it now needed improving and updating to incorporate a more modern style of living.

The new rear extension houses a utility area which is accessed from the newly formed open plan kitchen and dining area.

The original layout comprised of lots of small rooms, typical really considering its past. We decided to completely open up the rear of the property to create a truly beautiful space with views out to an impressive rear garden.

The exterior finishes of the new extension are what really sets this design off, with an amazing contrast of traditional and modern materials which enhance the buildings original qualities perfectly. We opted for a traditional brick finish to match the original property and retained the small chimney within the single storey rear roof construction. However, what really brings everything together are the black steel framed windows and doors to the rear, constructed and supplied by Fabco Sanctuary (http://fabcosanctuary.com). They provide a perfect blend of modern design coupled with older construction methods.

The building works were carried out by KH Construction, who did a magnificent job! (http://www.khconstruction.co.uk).

“Chris has worked with us on all three phases of our renovation project and wish that we had discovered him sooner with previous renovation projects undertaken! Chris has a great blended approach being both pragmatic and creative while always mindful of providing the most cost effective solution to the project. He also adapted any plans quickly with any last minute changes thrown his way. Highly professional and good value for money, we really could not recommend him highly enough.”
